Combustion, Explosion, and Shock Modeling Consultant

Technical Consultant #1178

Expertise

  • Combustion, explosion and the detonation of solids, liquids and gases.
  • Solid propellants used for rocket and gun propulsion.
  • Interior ballistics processes: Combustion, ignition, combustion-instability and suppression.
  • Noise generated by shock propagation from weapon systems (large and small caliber guns) and suppression.
  • Biomass gasification, energy and activation including pyrolysis and fluid-bed processing.
  • Biomass raw materials including paper mill, sludge, agri-wastes, chicken manure.
  • Biogas cracking technology and catalyst.

Experience

Independent Consultant, 1984 - Present.

  • Developed interactive technical software products, involving all aspects of physical modeling, derivation, numerical algorithm design, code execution, testing and implementation.
  • Conceived of a unique burn-rate formula for nitramines (RDX, HMX).
  • Developed software for PC computational fluid dynamics to simulate specific combustion and flow processes, in particular in the areas of ignition, instability, and quasi-steady burning of solid propellants in interior-ballistic systems.
  • Modeled compressed-gas driven air-bags; and rapid hydraulic actuation as in ballistic brakes.
  • Expert in combustion system noise and blast noise, cavitation in liquid propellants, and chemically reacting flows in combustion systems such as fluidized beds.
  • Developed catalytic cartridge technology for ultra-clean residential gas-burning heaters.
  • Assisted in the conversion of lingo-cellulosic waste (such as biomass, olive pits, walnut shells, and creosoted wood) to activated carbon and gas energy, involving catalytic gasification of char.
  • Invented a proprietary rapid activation/gasification technology for biomass-derived chars, for which a full-scale beta site gasifier has been constructed.

Princeton Combustion Research Labs, Inc. 1979 - 1984

  • Research scientist focused on combustion modeling and numerical analysis problems.

Aeronautic Research Associates of Princeton (ARAP) 1977

  • Consultant focused on the modeling of solid propellant combustion.

Fusion Energy Corp. 1975 - 1976

  • Analytical prediction of charged particle (Migma) orbits.
  • Solved the problem of intersecting plasma orbits by a small-perturbation approach (Krylov-Bogoliubov) whereby an analytical series derivation has saved hundreds of hours of raw mainframe computing time in orbit simulation, with superior accuracy.

Princeton University, Dept. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering,1974 -1979

  • Research work included solid propellant combustion modeling and numerical analysis of chemically-reactive flow systems in solid propellant rocket motors.

Officer, Israeli Air Force; engineering team leader, structural design.1969 - 1973
