- Prepare and grade qualifying examination questions for prospective Ph.D. students.
- Participate in Ph.D. review committees.
Xerox Corporation, NY, Senior Research Scientist, 1988 - 2010
- Led a cross-disciplinary team in a project to develop proprietary modeling tools to guide the design of novel print head technologies. The developed tools resulted in a significant decrease in the design cycle of new print heads, drastically reducing time-to-market of new products. Key intellectual property was generated.
- Developed proprietary modeling tools by coupling commercial CFD codes with in-house codes. Integrated and automated these tools to enable web-based deployment for analysis and optimization by design engineers and other end users.
- Provided fundamental understanding of piezoelectric print head performance latitudes and parameter sensitivities through simulation DOEs. Identified key performance-to-cost metrics and robust manufacturing techniques to maximize performance and minimize cost. Key intellectual property was generated.
- Guided, through modeling, the successful scale-up of a large, multimillion dollar toner plant thereby enabling significant increases in toner production and profit margin.
- Developed award-winning, fully documented and fully supported proprietary tools to model the motion quality of closed belt loop systems. These tools became the established standards for analysis and design of the belt loop architectures of all the machines built in the past 15 years.
- Provided pivotal guidance in high profile, high visibility projects involving new and existing flagship products, including very large production class, color machines, such as the iGen family of digital presses.
- Used modeling and simulation and applied DfLSS practices to address a wide variety of technical challenges ranging from robust design and troubleshooting to manufacturing and cost improvements.
- Led all CFD based work in matters involving heating, cooling, ventilation, particulate and contaminate transport (toner particles, dirt and ozone), including high performance thermal management systems for high density electronic enclosures.
Grumman Corporation, NY, Research Scientist, 1987 - 1988
- Led project to conduct complex multi-wavelength extinction/emission measurements to characterize the optical properties of solid rocket propellants at high temperatures. The project was completed ahead of time and results were presented to the funding agency (Department of Defense).
- Modeled the effects of crystallization kinetics on the radiance of hot aerosols to match experimental data and provide a method to characterize the signatures of solid rocket propellants and optimize their mission-specific performance.
